Joan Laporta, the former president of FC Barcelona, made sure to bid farewell to the team’s players and technical staff after officially resigning from his position to run again for the presidency of the club. He delivered an emotional message explaining the reasons for his decision and his stance on the upcoming phase.

Laporta said: “FC Barcelona elects its president every five years, and after this period ends, if the president wishes to run again, he must resign. These are the club’s regulations because we are managed according to democratic rules.”

He continued: “Part of the board must resign, while the other part continues to manage the club’s affairs. Rafa Yuste will remain as interim president along with six other board members, and I ask you to support him because he will act correctly.”

He added: “I am running with a strong desire to win, and if things go as I hope, I aim to win on March 15, then return with Rafa Yuste to manage the club until July 1, according to the regulations.”

He said: “I will miss you during these days because the best thing I experienced as a president was being with you, with Flick and the technical staff.”

He continued: “You are the real reason for what Barcelona is experiencing today. We are going through a historic moment, and you make Barcelona fans happy.”

He went on: “Thank you for what you have provided over these years, last season was historic, and this season is going very well.”

He added: “I hope to return on March 15 to be with you again, to continue the stadium development project you deserve, and to continue winning titles.”

For his part, Rafa Yuste, the interim president of FC Barcelona, said: “I have known Laporta since we were six years old, and he has taught me a lot on a human level. We will continue during this short period to work in the same manner the club is accustomed to.”

He added: “Our hearts are with you, and we will continue to support you in the upcoming phase.”
