Real Betis Deserved the Win, and This is What We Lack

Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid, expressed his partial satisfaction with his team’s recent match against Real Betis, emphasizing the difficulty of facing an organized and effective defense, and affirming that the reason for the loss was not a lack of effort or will.

Simeone said, “We couldn’t crack a very organized, very disciplined defense, with excellent defensive work.”

He continued: “The reason wasn’t a lack of will, effort, or running, but rather a lack of clarity to disrupt a defense like the one Betis had, who were the deserved winners.”

He added: “We didn’t create any scoring opportunities. The opponent defended excellently, counter-attacked, and managed to score two goals. We didn’t create chances and weren’t clear in the final stage of the match. I congratulate the opposing team.”

Regarding the criticisms about the pitch from his players Griezmann and Koke, he clarified: “They are the ones playing, I don’t think about that.”

As for the disallowed goal due to a precise offside, Simeone said: “Sometimes the decision is in our favor and sometimes against us; we didn’t lose because of that.”

He concluded his remarks by talking about Julian Alvarez, saying: “We need him, he is a very important player for us, I always say that, our best player, and I hope he will be ready for Thursday’s match.”
