Kirsty Gallacher speaks out on attack: ‘He kicked me like a football’ | Football | Sport

Former Sky Sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher has courageously spoken out about a frightening attack in which she was assaulted by a man in London. The 50-year-old was kicked by a man as she made her way to her vehicle in the capital. She reported the attack to the police, but the perpetrator has never been traced. In sharing her experience, she has called for authorities to take more action regarding violence against women and girls.

“He turned around and kicked me – really kicked me – like he would kick a football,” she told the UK Tonight with Sarah-Jane Mee. “That’s why women don’t report these crimes because also not enough is being done about it,”. On the need for greater police support, she continued: “My biggest sadness or anger was there was not enough of a police presence. And we’re in central London and I was looking everywhere, like I almost wanted to shout, ‘please help me!'”

“I would love a bigger police presence on the streets [to make women feel safe]. And also I would like the police to take it seriously when women go ‘I’ve just been assaulted’ – even the most minor of assaults.”

A Met Police spokesperson responded that they were “committed to tackling all forms of violence against women and girls”.

“Officers spoke with the victim in this case on several occasions to share updates as the investigation progressed,” they added. “Our last contact with them was at the end of December when they were informed the investigation had been filed, but would be reopened if the suspect was identified. The suspect’s image remains in circulation across the Met.

“The investigation is closed at this time but will be reviewed if new information comes to light.”

Gallacher, 50, launched her career at Sky in 1996 and held various roles at the channel. She eventually moved to a presenter role on Sky Sports News in 2011 and remained there for an additional seven years.

Since then, Gallacher has taken up positions with GB News and has featured on numerous radio stations in recent years. She left the former in December 2021 after discovering a benign tumour in her ear, causing tinnitus.
