Arsenal ‘want Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain return’ in Celtic transfer twist | Football | Sport

Free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has reportedly been offered the opportunity to join Arsenal’s coaching staff while in discussions with Celtic. The former England international has been considering his future since departing Besiktas last summer and has been training with Arsenal in recent months.
Arteta is described as “a big admirer” and “has an eye on him for a coaching role once he retires” as he seeks greater involvement from former Arsenal players in the club’s backroom operations.
Nevertheless, it is suggested that the midfielder informed the boss he wishes to continue his playing career, with a move to Celtic drawing nearer.
When addressing the participation of former players in the behind-the-scenes structure at the Premier League leaders, Arteta said: “I love it. At the end, that history of the club, people who have lived those experiences, bring something different.
“It’s like an academy player that has been here since he was eight. He has something else in them, a special feeling. That’s the power of it.
“I would be more than happy to have more. I have some very personal relations with some ex-players that have been part of different teams in the history of the club that are so helpful.”
When questioned about the potential signing of Oxlade-Chamberlain last week, he stated: “We explore every option.”
The Daily Record has learned that a move to Celtic is not yet confirmed, missing the midnight cut-off to register players for the Europa League match against Stuttgart.
Celtic have initiated medical examinations with the player, and while personal terms are believed to be no issue, negotiations hit a snag over the duration of the contract, with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s representatives keen on an extension option at the end of the term.
Celtic remain interested but have considered a move for ex-Chelsea and AC Milan midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko if the deal falls through.
Bakayoko, who departed PAOK on a free transfer in January, has already expressed his readiness for his next move – admitting he misses being involved in football.
Speaking last month, he said: “The transfer window? There are some things coming about my future. I am feeling 100 per cent ready for the next challenge. I miss football a lot.”
