Statistics Confirm Barcelona’s Offensive Superiority Despite Missed Chances

Analytical data reveals that Barcelona remains the top team in expected goals in the Spanish league, significantly outperforming Real Madrid, according to the Spanish newspaper ‘Sport’.

The newspaper explained that the last two away matches for Barcelona in the league witnessed an unusual weakness in converting chances into goals. Hans Flick pointed out the large number of missed opportunities against Real Sociedad and Elche, despite the victory over Elche, the lack of effectiveness against Real Sociedad cost the team three points.

According to ‘Flashcore’ data, Barcelona recorded 3.68 expected goals against Sociedad, with the ball hitting the crossbar five times, while the total expected goals against Elche was 6.44, which meant that the team should have scored twice the actual goals, as three goals were disallowed in the match against Real Sociedad.

The Spanish newspaper confirmed that Barcelona not only tops the league’s scoring list with 60 goals in 22 matches but also leads the expected goals statistic with an average of 2.2 goals per match since the Santiago Bernabéu Clasico on October 26, clearly ahead of Real Madrid, which has an expected goal average of 1.2, reflecting the Catalan team’s offensive superiority.

The report adds that this superiority shows that Barcelona’s ability to convert chances into goals remains strong, despite missing a large number of opportunities in some matches, as the team scored 2.72 goals per match compared to 2.2 expected goals, demonstrating the quality and continuity of their offensive performance.
