Wolves have completed the loan signing of Angel Gomes from French giants Marseille. The 25-year-old will initially join the Midlands club until the end of the season but Wolves have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer. It’s understood the loan fee is around €1m, with the buy-option standing at €7m. It marks a return to English football for the midfielder after he departed Manchester United for Lille in 2019.

Gomes excelled at the Ligue 1 club and earned his England debut in September 2024 against Ireland. The diminutive midfielder moved to Marseille on a free transfer in the summer but he failed to nail down a starting place under Roberto De Zerbi. Gomes made 20 appearances for the club but Wolves will hope to sign him permanently in the summer as they prepare for life in the English Championship.

Speaking on Gomes’ arrival, Wolves boss Rob Edwards said: “I’m delighted, really excited. I’ve got a really good relationship with Angel – we go back quite a long way now. At the FA we got on really, really well. I thought he was a brilliant, technical player, and he’s got a great brain. He gives us real quality in that midfield area and it’s a really exciting signing for the football club.”
